The beginning
Back in the 1930s, the Institute of Donglu began specializing in the medical subjects and that was the start of the teaching medicine in Kunming Medical University(昆明医科大学). Having done steady progress and developed its curriculum, it opened the first medical college in 1935, which was associated with the Institute of Yun’an that was the ancestor of the Donglu institute.
Eventually, coming to 1955, the college came out a separate and self-controlled educational department and became well-known as the Kunming Institute of Medicine. No further, China’s national educational Committee enlisted it as the leading and fast-growing institute in 1975. The university title was not given to it until 2010, and after that, it started to be called Kunming medical university. To date, this university appears to be the biggest educational organization that is specializing in medicine in the whole region of Yun’an.

Scholarships
Kunming Medical University recruits 80-120 students for scholarships every year. Scholarships for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degree as well as for language courses are provided.
Area, personnel, and departments
Occupying an area of over 12,000-meter square, Kunming medical university is situated in the downtown of Yunnan, Kunming. And it is also a big employer as having more than 5,000 teaching and supervising employees, including 1,200 expert doctorate degree professors. The educating personnel is giving lectures, helping out and honing the students’ knowledge about the subjects on their program. In the accommodations of the university, there are about 16,000 students living and studying today.

Libraries
As the libraries play a separate and huge role in the students’ day-to-day life, it is not mentioned in the department’s section of Kunming medical university.
