Shanxi Medical University in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, the Republic of China, was founded almost a year ago. It is an extensive Institute of new medical and health sciences, which combines the liberal arts, physical sciences, and engineering, as well as management into medical tuition. The precursor of the ShMU was the Shanxi Medical Mission Institute, established in the last month of summer of 1919 with the National University as its site. During its existence, it has undergone itself a large number of changes and had a huge list of names from the year of creation to 2017.
About Taityan City
Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi region, is found in the Taiyuan Basin in the central part of the province, in the east of the city is Mount Taihang in the west of Mount Luiliang. The Fenhe River flows through the city.
With an area of 7 thousand km2 and a population of 2.67 million, the city of Taiyuan has a long backward that began in 497 BC. Taiyuan has now become a fast-growing industrial city. With the proclamation of reforms and openness policy, notable improvements have been made in the city’s infrastructure: especially in the area of transport and telecommunications.

ShMU provides a wide selection of educational resources.
According to 2018 data, SMU consists of thirty-two academic faculties, twelve hospitals that are directly connected, twelve hospitals that are not directly connected, twenty-nine tuition hospitals, one hundred and eleven tuition bases, fifteen educational bases for postgraduate students and two research bases. 19,300 learners, among whom are bachelor, postgraduate, Ph.D. and foreign learners, gain knowledge in 1,700 faculties. ShMU has established good relations with universities in other countries, thanks to which it has a valid commune of graduates with over 130 thousand members worldwide.
Academic base and Scientific Investigation
ShMU contains a highly qualified personnel reserve. SMU has 3 buildings (relatively, Yingjie building, Chuanzhi building, Zhongdu building), which occupy a total space of about 241 acres with a built-up zone of 711 thousand m2. The entire supposed cost of fixed holdings of ShMU is 1.3 billion Yuan. Every year the entire research bankroll is 111 million Yuan. The space of the library is 8766.46 m2, the library has twelve reading rooms, six Chinese and foreign libraries, two e-reading rooms, and 1013 places.
Great Progress
ShMU has proven itself in the areas of talent development, investigation, public services, cultural heritage, and novation. According to 2018 data, it received a good impetus in the further progress of scientific research. It has completed 273 sci-tech drafts at the regional level and above. Of these, 234 articles were gathered by SCI, 49 patents were obtained, 40 works were issued. It was awarded seventeen regional and ministerial awards for science and technology.
International partnership
As part of the concept of upgrade and novation in education, the leaders of SMU are trying to use every opportunity to comprehensively develop contribution in the field of education, scientific investigation in the field of medical sciences with higher education institutions worldwide, and thereby mutually influence progress in international higher education. ShMU collaborated with universities and academies from the UK, Ireland, Poland, and the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan. There are also various types of exchange programs.
