Climate

Since 2007 became known as National Demonstration Vocational College.

Climate

Kunming locates in the law latitude monsoon climate zone. The weather is warm and comfortable throughout the year. Winter is never too cold and summer is never too hot. History

Kunming has a long history. As early as 30.000 years ago, ancient tribes inhabited the area around Lake Dian. In the 3rd century BC, Chuangqiao from the Chu (in the middle course of the River Yangtze) brought his people to that area and founded the Dian Kingdom. In 109 BC, during the reign of Emperor Han Xi Wudi, Dian Kingdom became part of the Han territory and was named Yizhou Prefecture. It used to be an important transport hub, connecting the interior regions of China with the southern branch of the ancient Silk Road. Through Yunnan, it also connected modern Sichuan with Vietnam. During the Sui dynasty became known as Quanzhou.

Since the 8th century, it has been known to the Chinese as Tuodong city. In 1253 it came under the control of the central government of China with the Yuan invasion. Then 23 years later was founded as Kunming County and the capital city of Yunnan Province. Scientists believe it was Yachi city, described by the 13th-century Venetian traveler Marco Polo. During the Min and Qing dynasties, the city was the residence of the highest Yunnan prefecture. In 1912 it turned to the status of Kunming County, and in 1928 became a municipality.

Modern City

Kunming University of Science and Technology

Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) has a long history. It is one of the largest universities in Yunnan Province and a well-known university in China. The university is an interdisciplinary university focusing mainly on engineering and science, while at the same time integrating technology, management, economics, art, law and education in coordination.

It provides bachelor’s, master’s and P.h.D. degrees. Among more than 1.600 Chinese universities Kunming University of Science and Technology is ranked in the top 100 and holds the title of “Outstanding Universiti in China’s Higher Education”. Yunnan Normal University

Located in Kunming, which is called the “City of the Perennial Source “. Founded in 1938 on the basis of National Southwest Associated  University Teachers College. Yunnan University was found in 1922 and used to be a private university in Donglu. In 1934 and 1938 was renamed Provincial Yunnan University and National Yunnan University respectively. It is one of the first universities in southwest China.

In 1937, when Xiong Qinglai, a famous mathematician and teacher, served as president. That time a large number of renowned scholars were recruited to teach at the university. Kunming University

Changan University

Changan University related to the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is on the list “211 Project”. Xian Jiao Tong University

Xian Jiao Tong University is a key university under the direct control of the Chinese Ministry of Education and one of the eldest universities in China. Its predecessor Nanyang College was founded in 1896 in Shanghai and renamed Jiao Tong University in 1921.

In 1956 the main part of Jiao Tong University was moved to Xian in accordance with the decision of State Council. Later became known as Xian Jiao Tong University in 1959. Currently, Xian Jiao Tong University is in the World First-Class Universities and Disciplines List.

Northwest University

In 1912, Northwest University got its current name and was renamed Northwest National University in 1923. Then was renamed Northwest Associated University in 1938. In 1939, again became known as Northwest National University.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Northwestern University was a comprehensive university under the direct control of the Ministry of Education. In 1958, the university came under the Shaanxi province administration. Since 1978, the university is one of the key universities in China. Study in Sanya

Hainan Tropical Ocean University (HTOU) is a full-time government university. The People’s Government of Hainan Province, China National Offshore Petroleum Corporation, State Oceanic Administration of China and Sanya Municipal People’s Government jointly built this university.

The university has status as “China-ASEAN Education and Training Center” and one of ten “Education Assistance Centers” of the Chinese Ministry of Education. State Council Graduate Committee and Member of the University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization University. It serves as the cradle of talent cultivation for the minority region of central Hainan. Functions as a centre for innovation, social services, cultural heritage and international cooperation and exchange.

Its predecessors were the Hainan Li and Miao Ordinary School, established in 1954 by Guangdong Province, and the Hainan Li and Miao College of Education in 1958. After several mergers, splits, adjustments and name changes Qiongzhou College appeared. In 2006 it became known as Qionzhou University after years of construction and development. Hainan Ordinary National School merged with Qiongzhou University in April 2006. In 2009 main campus moved from Wujishan to Sanya. In September 2015, it became known as Hainan Tropical Ocean University.
